Today, Friday May 27, 2011, the world lost one of the most influential poet, writer, hip hop before there was hip hop...It was definitely horrible news to receive!! Rest In Peace to the legendary Gil Scott-Heron...I actually was about to see him perform in NY earlier this year and wasn't able to make it...sooo I'm even more upset now! But it was good to see that he recently was getting more and more recognition...I was happy to see his collabo with Nas after the new album...and Jamie xx remix album was cool too...
There's too many official tracks for me to post, but here's a couple of bangers...also check out the Documentary in 6 parts (below)
I've been going to this fest for the past 6 years and would never miss it...the lineup speaks for itself...I mean, I dont think it can get any tougher than this!! wow...Black Moon performin' Enta Da Stage, Nas Illmatic (with special guests AZ, Pete Rock and DJ Premier), Mobb Deep The Infamous, Genius/GZA Liquid Swords, Cypress Hill Black Sunday, Raekwon & Ghost Only Built For Cuban Linx, Lauryn Hill Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Masta Killah No Said Date, Souls of Mischief 93 Til Infinity, etc!!
just toooo much!!

Just a couple of days after the great Prodigy interview by Complex we have the Prodigy x Complex The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson EP dropping today for free download (below). Make sure you check out the interview where he speaks about his prior drama with Nas, run-in with JayZ, capone snitching on Havoc's brother. He even talks about how he thought Biggie was corny and even spoke about how he originally thought Wu-Tang's Protect Your Neck was corny. He speaks about more in depth about these incidents/times in his new book, My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep's Prodigy out today, so the interview & mixtape is definitely a good appetizer for the book and album in the near future.
Malian Trio SMOD Features Frontman Sam, Son Of World Music Stars Amadou & Mariam; The Group Fuses Hip Hop, Folk And Blues Music With Traditional Malian Styles
This is a groundbreaking album produced by superstar Manu Chao. SMOD originally connected with Manu Chao through their frontman Sam, who is the son of world music stars Amadou & Mariam. Manu Chao had produced Amadou & Mariam’s breakthrough album, ‘Dimanche a Bamako,’ catapulting them into international icons.
SMOD’s Lead Single Is “Les Dirigeants Africains”; A Commentary On Rampant Corruption In African Politics
after listening to this album once I had to restart it again...I am one of Manu's biggest fans...I absolutely love Amadou & Miriam's album especially Diamanche a Bamako. I was in shock when I heard Damian Marley & Nas sampling of Sabali in their Distant Relatives project (also one of my favorite albums!!)....soo this feels like a concoction of elements all coming together...I'm really excited about this album...I think it will do really well.

I have to say that upon hearing this album the first time, I knew that I would be listening to it over and over...I think it's a really great album. I feel like Diego is a concoction of a modern day Julio Iglesias, Leonard Cohen & The Beatles, with a hint of Federico Aubele. Smooth and strong, Diego really transfers his pain onto the listener. The album's short 30-minute span leaves you yearning for more...so replayyyyy...I will definitely be getting this album once it comes out.

Listen to a 5 minute teaser from the new Culture of Fear album
Renowned DJ duo Thievery Corporation have announced details of their sixth studio album, Culture of Fear, set for release on June 28th on ESL Music. The release will kick-off with a live show at the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn on June 24th and the full live band will be doing a run of shows throughout the summer, including trips to Portugal, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, Australia and a headline show at Red Rocks on August 14th.
With over 1.2 million albums sold in the U.S. across 15 years of making music, Thievery Corporation serves up their sixth studio album titled Culture of Fear. They continue to blend musical styles in their trademark fashion; space-rock jams lead to hip-hop inspired grooves, airy down-temp trances and dub-reggae infused vibes throughout the journey.
Tracks include “Web of Deception,” a 70’s space-rock-funk homage to bands like Mystic Moods Orchestra, “Take My Soul,” a rock/soul/electronic jam featuring longtime Thievery Corporation Persian singer LouLou, an epic instrumental titled “Fragments,” as well as collaborations with Bitter Sweet vocalist Shana Halligan on “Is It Over?” and Boston hip-hop artist Mr. Lif on the title track, “Culture of Fear.”
Over the years, Thievery Corporation has become known for the carnival-esque atmosphere of their live shows, during which they bring out a 15-member live band of musicians and vocalists. The group has sold out shows at such famed venues as the Hollywood Bowl, London's 02 Shepherds Bush Empire, and the Theatro Vrahon Melina Merkouri in Athens, Greece, among many others.
